Stomach (Gastric) Cancer Screening

Like esophageal cancer, there are no current standards or routines established to screen patients for stomach (gastric) cancer. Clinical trials to study the effectiveness of stomach cancer screening are underway around the country. The upper GI endoscopy has been studied as the preferred method to find stomach cancer at an early stage. It may be worthwhile to screen those who have a high risk for the disease. High-risk candidates include older individuals diagnosed with gastritis or pernicious anemia, patients with partial gastrectomy (previous removal of a portion of the stomach), stomach polyps, a family history of stomach cancer, adenomatous polyposis and hereditary nonpolyposis colon cancer syndromes.

Please contact the Ambulatory Center for Endoscopy and Colonoscopy, LLC (ACE), at  1.877.ENDOACE (877.363.6223) for a referral to one of our specialists.
